4-7 Weeks: RU486, MIFEPRISTONE

This drug is only prescribed by a licensed physician.  This is known as a Chemical Abortion.  It is a series of three pills, as well as three doctor’s appointments.  The first of which is a pelvic exam, blood test, and vaginal ultrasound to confirm that the fetus has developed for 49 days or less.   The pills are then taken which induces contractions of the uterus in one to four hours following the pills.  This ‘naturally’ expels the fetus and all fetal tissue as well as blood.  A follow up check-up is required to be sure that all the tissue was expelled from the body.
