Between 6 & 14 Weeks: Suction Curettage

This is a surgical procedure as well as the most common procedure.  It is very painful because the cervix has to be stretched open.  A hard plastic tube is then inserted into the uterus and connected to a suction machine.  A Curette ( a loop-shaped knife) may also be inserted into the uterus to scrape out fetal parts that the suction does not extract.
